The South Salt Lake Neighborhood Center and the Columbus Adult Education Center staffs teamed up to host a booth at World Refugee Day. Besides meeting a lot of wonderful people, we were able to make contacts with other volunteer organizations, give out information about the school, and sign-up many potential volunteers. Visitors to our booth enjoyed face-painting, balloons, and spinning for a prize. Thanks to all those who helped with our booth!
The last day of school students and staff enjoyed a potluck dinner, games, and a chance for students to redeem their points (for attendance, bringing materials, and doing homework) in the school store. Have a great summer, and we will see you in the fall for a new year!
The Columbus Branch Adult School has changed its name. It is now called the
Columbus Adult Education Center
There was lots of learning at the school this week. Students discussed and practiced knowing the difference between direct and indirect quotations, worked on computers, and read with their volunteer helpers. In Daily Dose students had great conversations about their apartments or houses.
Friday, March 2nd, some of the students, volunteers and staff of the Columbus Branch Adult School were privileged to visit Governor Gary Herbert in his office at the Utah State Capitol. Representatives from the school personally thanked the governor for his help in acquiring some laptop computers that we are currently using. Thanks, Governor Herbert, for sharing some time with us!
